What I am going to talk about is how you get access to this information. There are 8 potential values for the orientation, I’m not going to get into each one because there is an excellent guide on image orientation. When photos are taken the camera could be in portrait mode, landscape, the photographer could be upside down, who knows! Well, the image does! It stores this information in the Exif data. This is stored as what is called Exif data, Exif stands for Exchangeable image file format.Įxamples of the data that could be stored include, the model of camera, the exposure time, the dimensions, and, crucial to our purposes, the orientation.

Photos taken by a digital camera, including smart phones, contain a load of meta information. I certainly hadn’t had to think about it before!

From the other issue, it sounded like it was a side effect of resizing the image.
#EXIF GETDATA GETTAG FOR ANDROID#
Related: a similar issue ( CB-295 ) was opened for Android and it sounds like it was implemented. The second is the value to look up, in our case Orientation. If EXIF & geo data were passed through this would be a huge gain for Cordova. The tag names to use are listed in EXIF.Tags in exif.js. Or get a single tag with EXIF.getTag, where you specify the tag as the second parameter. If you’ve ever seen a photo appear the wrong way in an app or a web page, it is likely because the developer hasn’t thought about how orientation information is stored in an image. EXIF.getTag takes two arguments, the first is the EXIF data, this. You can access it's properties to get data like the image caption, the date a photo was taken or it's orientation. Not least needing to handle how the image should be positioned. It turns out that doing image manipulation in the browser opens you up to all sorts of fun and games. Thanks Septemat 8:46 AM Kuh would have thought.
#EXIF GETDATA GETTAG UPDATE#
To review, open the file in an editor that reveals hidden Unicode characters. Is there any reason this wouldn't work read exif data from am ing tag where the source image is being constantly updated every 500ms, I am calling EXIF.getData() after every update of the image source but it always returns false. One of the features of our Disney pins database is that you can crop any image you add to the database. This file contains bidirectional Unicode text that may be interpreted or compiled differently than what appears below.
